Galatians 1-2

SERMON OUTLINE FOR FURTHER STUDY/REFLECTION

I - INTRODUCTION - BOOK OF GALATIANS
• Letter to the churches in Galatia (Turkey)
• Author: Apostle Paul
• Audience: Jewish & Gentile Christians
•Purpose of the Letter:
o rebuke and correct believers abandoning Christ for false teaching: (Christ + works = salvation)

II - DRIFTING INTO A DECEPTIVE GOSPEL
• Distorted Gospel for Salvation:
o work to earn salvation = no remedy for sin, no reconciliation with God
o often cultic under demonic oppression

III - GOSPEL TRUTH FOR SALVATION
• Jesus + Nothing = Salvation
• Revelation is directly from Jesus

IV - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
• Struggle: Am I really eternally forgiven & saved?
• Enemy’s Lie: you need to do more
• Eternal Truth: Christ did it all, you are saved by grace through faith
• Application: know God by studying His Word which builds up discernment to recognize false teachings

WEEKLY MEMORY VERSE
Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

GROWING DEEPER
1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
2. Have you ever been a victim of false teaching? How did you recognize it?
3. Why is it easier to revert back to works-based living, rather than living in freedom of grace?
Why do we have a tendency to want to earn our salvation?
4. What made it difficult for the Galatians to accept the true gospel message they had heard?
5. How can Scripture memorization keep us from accepting false messages? (See the Weekly Memory Verse.)

In His great grace!
