SERMON OUTLINE (SORRY NO AUDIO RECORDED)

I. CHOSEN BY GOD
a) Called out of darkness, set-apart by God, a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9-10)
b) Spiritual blessings & position to bless others (Eph. 1:3, 18-23; Eph. 2:6-7; 1 Peter 3:8-9)
c) Blessing others rather than blaming, carrying a bitter spirit, or gossiping, etc.

II. BLESSING DEFINED
a)Hebrew: berakah/barak (to kneel, benediction) / Greek: eulogeo (pronounce a good word or report, eugology)
b)Power of Words: Life & death (Prov. 18:21), same mouth that praises God should not curse (James 3:9-10), not to let unwholesome talk come out of our mouths (Eph. 4:29), not to repay insult for insult but bless (1 Peter 3:9)
c)Definitions:
- "to speak well of or speak the intentions and favour of God on a person" - Richard Bruncton
- "You can bless someone when you will their good under the invocation of God. You invoke God on their behalf to support the good that you will for them. This is the nature of blessing. It is what we are to receive from God and then give to another." - Dallas Willard

III: HOW TO BLESS
a) From a place of intimacy with God (abiding in Christ by reading His Word, nurtures the mind & heart of Christ)
b) By speaking and declaring God's Truths (know God's Word, listen to the Holy Spirit)
c) Redemptive (blessings have in mind the potential of others that keeps with God's plan and purposes over them)

IV: BIBLICAL EXAMPLES
a) Gen. 24:60 - Rebekah's family blesses her
b) Gen. 48: - Jacob blesses Joseph and sons (Gen. 49:28)
c) 1 Sam. 2:20-21 - Eli blesses Hannah and her husband
d) Num. 6:24-26 - Aaron's priestly blessing over the Israelites
e) Eph. 6:23-24 - Apostle Paul to the church in Ephesus
f) 1 Thess. 3:11-13 - Apostle Paul to the church in Thessalonica

V. APPLICATION
a) Usually face to face with a gentle touch.
b) Example: "Corey, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, may the grace of God bless you so that his intentions for your life come to pass. May he release upon you the wisdom you need to take the appropriate steps. May you be blessed with great courage to take those steps."
c) Other examples: blessing your home, marriage, children, workplace, yourself, etc.

VI. CONCLUSION
We are chosen and blessed in Christ to go and bless the nations in His great Name and for His great glory!

May God's favor be upon you. May he give you increasing measures of faith and courage to live for his Son Jesus Christ!
