Costly Love to Worship Jesus
John 12:1-11, Pastor Trevor, March 26, 2023
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Being Associated with Jesus will be Costly
- family, friends, governing authorities in conflict with Christian values, beliefs, faith claims in who Jesus is (may feel threatened/judged)
- believers may seek for convenient worship than costly worship
II. BIBLICAL CONTEXT
What does costly love to worship Jesus look like?
A. Devoted to Jesus’ Teachings (Scripture/Prayer)
- Mary sat at the Lord’s feet to listen (Luke 10:39)
B. Offers Jesus Your Best
- Mary uses expensive perfume to anoint Jesus
- disciples view as waste, Jesus embraces as worship
- greed dismisses the value and worth of Jesus
C. Responds with a Humble Heart
- Mary uses her hair (glory) to wipe Jesus’ feet (slave to master)
D. Receives Recognition from Jesus!
- Jesus is deeply moved and gives Mary high recognition (Matt. 26:13)
III. IMPLICATIONS/APPLICATIONS/REFLECTIONS
- Do you believe Jesus is worth the cost to suffer for?
- How are the ways of the world distracting you from devoting time to be with Jesus? What steps will you take to find such time?
- How are you moving the heart of Jesus through your love and gratitude these days? Or, how might you begin doing so this week?
- What might you be willing to give, that is a cost to you, but a means of worship to Jesus over the next couple of weeks?
