How do you know God is good?

I. The Search for God and His Goodness
- Various reasons people search for God: struggles, purpose, uncertainties about life after death, etc.
- The devil aims to teach us about God in hope we will reject God and/or His existence as a good and loving God.
- Where is the goodness of God when the harshness of life seems to take away our livelihood?
II. Defining Goodness
- Rich Young Ruler (Mark 10:17-21), only God is good
- God is a different kind of good.
- Human goodness not consistent, heart-motive is often tainted (pride, greed, selfishness).
- God’s goodness (who lacks nothing) derives from His purity, holiness, mercy, love, grace, faithfulness and is motivated for our eternal well-being and earthly wholeness!
III. Implication / Application / Reflection
- How did God’s Word speak directly to you? What is your next step of faithful obedience based on today’s message?
- If you could ask God one question you are struggling with, what would you ask? How do you think His would respond?
- How does the devil work to turn people away from God?
- What’s the difference between humanity’s goodness vs God’s goodness?
- What should be the heart-motive behind a Christian’s goodness? What does this look like for you?
- Spend time writing down how God has been good to you. Praise Him with thanksgiving!
