“Desperate for Jesus”
Mark 10:46-52 Pastor Trevor, March 12, 2023
I. INTRODUCTION
A. What Are People Most Desperate For These Days?
- peace, security, to be loved, belonged, good health, success
- costs: money, lapse of good judgment, delayed consequences
II. BIBLICAL CONTEXT
What Does Desperate Faith in Jesus Look Like?
A. State of Spiritual Poverty
- Bartimaeus is religiously and culturally an outcast, nothing to offer, in need of God’s mercy
B. Seeks to Know More
- Bartimaeus is aware something is different and inquires more to what’s happening. Faith seeks understanding to know more.
C. Overcomes the Obstacles to Jesus
- Bartimaeus was rebuked for calling out to Jesus. This only spurred him all the more without shame or embarrassment.
D. Believes Jesus will Deliver
- Bartimaeus believed Jesus to be the anointed Messiah and the promises found in Him (eg. deliverer, savior, healer, etc).
E. Follows Jesus Faithfully
- Bartimaeus desired to follow Jesus along the road.
III. IMPLICATIONS/APPLICATIONS/REFLECTIONS
- Are you desperate for Jesus and aware of His passing presence?
- What obstacles are in the way from drawing near to Christ? What steps of courage will you take to overcome those obstacles?
- How would you respond to Jesus’ question? What would like for Him to do? In humility, take the time to pray to Jesus for your request.
“Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you!”
