INTRODUCTION
• No Guarantees Living in a World of Pain
• Looking for Hope in the Wrong Places
WHAT IS HOPE
• Worldly Hope
o choosing to be optimistic towards a positive outcome
o based on circumstances / striving for the guarantees
• Biblical Hope
o faithfully waiting with confident expectation in God (Heb. 11:1)
o not based on circumstances
FINDING HOPE IN UNEXPECTED WAYS
• Because God Says So…
o acts on His promises
• Called to Believe
o keeping faithful in the waiting (Rom. 8:25; 15:13)
LIVING HOPE IN CHRIST
• Access into the Most Holy Place (Heb. 10:19-23)
• Promises in Christ (2 Cor. 1:20)
• Unperishable Inheritance (Heb. 10:19-23; 1 Peter 1:3-5)
GETTING THROUGH THE PAIN
• God’s Grace, Strength, Presence is with Us (2 Cor. 12:7-9; Ps. 34:18)
o hope is not lost when circumstances don’t change
APPLICATION / CONCLUSION
• Patience
o be faithful while enduring hardship (2 Tim. 4:5-7; Titus 2:11-14)
• Promises
o God is preparing better things (Heb. 6:9-12; Eph. 3:20)
• Presence
o God is with you doing His faithful work in you (John 14:16-17; Matt. 28:20; Phil. 1:6)
• Presents
o remember God’s heavenly gift of Christ (Rom. 6:23)
GROWING DEEPER QUESTIONS
1. What have you been hoping for these days?
2. Explain the difference between worldly hope vs. biblical hope.
3. What is required of you while waiting for better things to come?
4. How will you guard yourself from false/dead hope?
5. Based upon God’s Word explain the hope found in Christ?
6. When difficult circumstances don’t change how will you keep hopeful & faithful?
7. In reflection, how has God made His faithfulness known in your life? Spend time in a prayer for thanksgiving knowing you serve a good and faithful God.
