SERMON STUDY/REFLECTION NOTES

I. INTRODUCTION
a. How aware are you of the ways and means of being influenced by the dark principalities in this world?
b. Read Ephesians 6:12

II. LIVING IN THE WORLD: "Unknowingly Influenced by Dark Principalities"
a. Do you believe in spiritual warfare?
b. Many Christians dismiss this reality to only later realize (through inner healing) that they've been influenced by the dark principalities.
c. Indications of a possible spiritual attack may include "out of nowhere" thoughts (bad thoughts, harmful thoughts, etc.). Or unusual (compulsive) behavior that you know isn't normal for you.
d. How might the devil and his dark principalities try to gain access into your life? (Matthew 26:41; James 1:13-14)
e. What does God provide to help battle against temptation (1 Cor. 10:13; Eph. 6:10-18)

III. ABIDING IN THE WORD: "Jesus Sets the Captive Free"
a. Read Mark 5:1-20
b. How is God speaking to you through these verses?
c. Why do you think this man ended up with such dark spiritual oppression?
d. What does Jesus show about who He is as it relates to such dark spirits?

IV. GROWING IN THE WAY: "Seeing the Oppressed in the Eyes of Jesus"
a. When you see someone struggling with an addiction or a bad habit or dresses in a certain way, how do you normally perceive them?
b. How does Jesus see this man held in the spiritual bondage of darkness? What can we learn from Jesus?
c. When you are struggling how do you see yourself? How do you think Jesus sees you?

One Pastor said: "We see a drunk, He sees a deacon! We see a drug addict, He sees a preacher! We see a harlot, He sees a choir member! This is how lives are changed when they come to Jesus! He'll take what you give Him and He will give you something much more precious in return!"

V. SURRENDERING INTO THE MINISTRY OF CHRIST
a. Has Jesus come to meet with you? He knows your pain, the torment, the agony, the suffering, the sin, the bondage, the guilt, the shame, the regret. Will you invite Him into your life? May the below prayer guide you.
b. Are you a believer but have been living "unarmed" and "unguarded" causing some area of sin? Read 1 John 1:9. Spend some time with your Heavenly Father (repentance/confession) and know His love and grace over you.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, this morning I am meeting Jesus at the cross. I acknowledge that my sins have separated me from you and have allowed the Enemy to influence my life. Thank you for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross in my place for the forgiveness of my sins and for Jesus to be my Risen Savior. I give my life to Jesus placing my faith and trust upon Him. I desire to receive the Holy Spirit to guide me and equip me to follow Jesus from this day forth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

God bless!
