SERMON: HOW TO PRAY – Why Pray?

KEY VERSE(S): Gal. 5:16-17,25; Eph. 2:8; Heb. 4:16; Jn. 15:5-8
I. Flesh (carnal) vs. Spirit (holy)
- How do we overcome our sin-nature ways of the flesh? - by walking in the Spirit
II. Walking in the Spirit
- 24 x 7 relational communion with God (access to the throne of grace)
- understand God’s ways, wisdom, thoughts (mind of Christ)
- strengthened, equipped, and, empowered by God for holy living and to fulfill Kingdom purposes
- abiding in God impacts the power/influence of prayers (abiding in the vine of Christ & asking in His Name)
- devil aims to have you cut ties with God (self-sufficiency, minimal power/influence in prayer-life)
III. Why Pray if God Already Knows what we Need?
- keep us relationally in the presence of God (not all about receiving the ‘presents’ from God)
- generates a humble and reliant heart for God
- grows our faith and gratitude to God
IV. Reflection/Application
1. How might your prayer life be under attack? (Do you spend daily quality time to abide in God’s Word, Worship, and Prayer?)
2. What steps will you take this week, if necessary, to commit more time in God’s Word, Worship, and Prayer? What will be the blessings?
