To Make Christ Known
-What Are You Saved From? – Sin, Law, Judgment
Pastor Trevor, Jan. 22, 2023
I. INTRODUCTION (THE WORLD - Worldly/Church challenges)
A. Uncertain what Salvation in Christ Means
- misguided to believe it’s for a better self-improved life
- Christianity not as expected (disappointed, leaves the faith)
II. BIBLICAL CONTEXT (THE WORD - God’s address to such challenges)
A. Jesus Saves us from our SINS (penalty, power, presence)
What is Sin & Consequences?
- sin is missing the mark in one’s choice to live obediently under God’s Holy commands; results: physical& spiritual death (no relationship with God), eternal death (eternally separated from God’s love & blessedness for the unrepentant sinners, demons, devil)
What are God’s Moral Laws? (Ten Commandments-Exodus 20)
- the living standards of obedience under God’s Holiness (makes sin known)
- not the means for salvation but measurement to our sin-nature
- OT Covenant Laws (moral & ceremonial) provided temporary means for cleansing, forgiveness, renewal leading to Christ’s life and sacrifice.
B. The Power of Repentance
-confession (godly sorrow having agreement with God for your sins as a sinner), a true heart’s desire to turn away from sin drawing closer to God
III. REFLECTION/APPLICATION (THE WAY – our response as guided by God)
- Write down/discuss what stood out to you from today’s message.
- Do you remember the reasons why you accepted Jesus as your Saviour?
- Why is understanding Sin, God’s Laws (Ten Commandments), Repentance, and, Judgement important to know when sharing Jesus with others?
IV. PRAYER POINTS
1. If the Spirit is leading you, come back to God with a prayer of repentance for your sins (1 John 1:9). See an Elder/Pastor for any additional support.
2. In prayer this week, ask the Lord to make know the next small step of obedience needed to place greater trust in Him over your own feelings, emotions, or personal expectation.
