SERMON STUDY/REFLECTION NOTES

I. INTRODUCTION
a. LENT (40 days): time for our annual spiritual checkup with God, time to test our holy obedience and disciplines following Jesus
b. reminds us of the 40 years the Israelites learned to depend upon God in the wilderness
c. reminds us how the Spirit sent Jesus into the desert for 40 days being faced with the devil's temptations (not to sin but to show who Jesus is in His humanity as one filled with the Spirit through prayer, fasting, and keeping obedient to the Father's heart)
d. Where does the Spirit need to take you in your own wilderness journey that has you grow and be strengthened against the sinful ways of this world?

II. READ MARK 8:31-38
a. What stands out as you read these verses?
b. Why was Jesus so stern in His rebuke to Peter?
c. How do you think the devil tries to interfere with our understanding of who Jesus is?
d. How could Christians become "dangerous disciples"?

III. DENY YOURSELF, TAKE UP YOUR CROSS, FOLLOW JESUS
a. Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
b. Does Jesus have full rights over your life? In what ways are you protecting your rights following your desires/preferences?
c. Read Galatians 6:14; Colossians 2:15
d. What does taking up your cross mean to you?
e. How do we live out both the Crucified life and the Risen life of Christ?

IV. APPLICATION/IMPLICATIONS/REFLECTION
a. Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal any misunderstandings or false interpretations you may have towards your beloved Saviour. Repent/Confess of any misunderstandings and thank God for His revelation in His grace.
b. What is your current relationship like with Jesus?
c. Where is the Spirit directing you?
d. What steps of obedience is Jesus asking you to take to follow Him?

May the Spirit lead you closer to Jesus through this season of reflection, examination, and testing.
